When software sits at the heart of a business, performance and reliability aren’t optional. When a system becomes slow, difficult to scale or unreliable, the impact can quickly reach customers.
That was the challenge facing Tracklog, a fleet and telematics business whose platform had become compromised and increasingly slow. Vehicle events that should have reached customers quickly were taking minutes to be delivered.
Tracklog needed a solution that would give them the stability and scalability they needed, without loosing the functionality their customers already relied on.
That’s where Jublo came in.
The challenge: when technology can no longer keep up
Tracklog’s existing system was responsible for processing vehicle data, triggering alerts, powering APIs and delivering information through its web platform. But as the system became increasingly difficult to maintain and scale, performance was suffering.
For a business operating around live fleet information, delays matter.
Vehicle events taking minutes to reach customers can affect how quickly they can respond to what’s happening across their fleet. The challenge wasn’t simply to make the existing system faster, Tracklog needed a more fundamental solution.
The goal was clear: keep the functionality that customers valued, while creating a more stable, scalable and dependable technology platform underneath it.
Replatforming from end to end
Rather than simply fixing individual issues within the existing system, Jublo took an end to end approach.
The platform was re-engineered across the technology stack, from vehicle data processing and alerting through to APIs and the web front end.
This meant looking at how different parts of the system worked together, identifying where improvements could be made and building a stronger foundation for the future.
The objective wasn’t to create something completely unfamiliar to Tracklog’s customers. It was to build a better version of the system they already knew.
The result: the functionality Tracklog wanted, supported by technology that was more stable, scalable and ready to evolve.
A clear roadmap, built around an MVP
With such a significant project, getting everything right from day one wasn’t about trying to deliver every feature at once.
Jublo worked with Tracklog to scope the minimum viable product (MVP), prioritising the functionality that mattered most and mapping it into a clear delivery timeline.
The MVP was delivered within eight months.
From there, development continued, with the full feature set delivered within eighteen months.
This phased approach meant Tracklog could move forward with a clear understanding of what was being built, when it would be delivered and how the platform could continue to develop over time.
Extending the platform beyond the desktop
The work didn’t stop with the core platform.
As the wider Tracklog ecosystem evolved, Jublo also moved into mobile application development, creating Tracklog EVO. A mobile first experience designed to give fleet managers access to important operational information when they’re away from their desks.
Rather than simply shrinking the desktop experience onto a smaller screen, Jublo focused on the information and actions that matter most when managing a fleet on the move.
Live vehicle data, fleet status, driver and journey information and alerts were brought into a connected mobile experience, while remaining closely integrated with the wider Tracklog platform.
Building technology that can keep moving
The Tracklog project demonstrates that replatforming isn’t simply about replacing old technology.
It’s about understanding what already works, identifying what needs to change and creating a technical foundation that can support what comes next.
For Tracklog, that meant taking an existing system and rebuilding it from the ground up, creating a greater stability and scalability while retaining the functionality their customers needed.
As the requirements of the business evolved, the platform could evolve with them.
Good technology shouldn’t hold a business back. It should give it room to move forward.
At Jublo, we work with organisations to understand the problem first, then design and engineer technology around the people, processes and outcomes that matter.
Your technology should support where your business is going, not where it’s been. Let’s talk about how Jublo could help you create a more stable, scalable solution.
